In honor of my mother, Doris Marie Long, who passed away one year ago today at age 75. She developed diabetes as an adult, in middle age, started on oral meds and progressed to reliance on insulin.
Diabetes contributed to her continued loss of vision, kidney problems and other health issues. Then she developed non-Hodgkins Lymphoma several years ago. In the last few years she began having trouble controlling her blood sugar levels. This all contributed to a weakened immune system and an infection finally took hold she could not recover from.
But on her last day, when she was barely able to talk, as each of her children and grandchildren spoke to her, she never failed to respond- "I Love You".
