Geocache Description:

Opensten

Opensten is placed very strategic on a hill with steep sides. The hill is called "Husberget" and is more than 30 m high and was hard to attack, certainly when it was likely that the surrounding area was a shallow lake or a wet bog. The fortress was first mentioned in 1362 but it could have been built hundred years earlier. The main tower wasn´t big but it was built in several floors and probably looked like a german castle. The fortress was destroyed by Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson in 1434.
Nowadays isn´t much left that remind us of the old times. At least not as we could see, maybe there are remainings in the soil that could tell us more..?
