Nebu2010: Liebe Freunde

Es ist vorbei. Die HPA war sehr hilfreich und hätte vieles erlaubt bei der Suche nach einem neuen Versteck, aber leider gibt es keine Möglichkeit die Dose von Groundspeak freigeschaltet zu bekommen.
Sowohl die Abstandsregel verhindert ein neues Versteck als das auch am ursprünglichen Ort die Dose gar nicht liegen darf, da es kein GPS Empfang gibt. Sie hätte damals gar nicht erst freigeschaltet werden dürfen (Glück gehabt ;-) ).

C'est la vie.

Ich hab mich immer sehr über die Logs gefreut - die Dose selbst war nie etwas besonderes, aber der Ort schon. Es war schön so lange es lief.

Ich dachte mir, es ist mal wieder an der Zeit diesem tollen Bau einen Cache zu widmen. Für alle Statistikfans: Der Cache liegt gut 16m unter NN und damit tiefer als Germanys deepest, wobei dieser oberirdisch liegt. Das ist ein kleiner gemeiner Vorteil meines Caches. Vor Ort gibt es noch einen TB zu discovern, wenn man Ihn den findet. Und wer moechte kann als Kontrast Hamburgs höchsten Cache finden.

Deutsch (english below) :
Der 1911 eröffnete St. Pauli-Elbtunnel – in Abgrenzung zum seit 1975 bestehenden Neuen Elbtunnel auch Alter Elbtunnel genannt – unterquert die Norderelbe auf einer Länge von 426,5 Metern und verbindet mit zwei Tunnelröhren die nördliche Hafenkante bei den St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken (Nordeingang) mit der Elbinsel Steinwerder (Südeingang). Er wird als öffentlicher Verkehrsweg sowohl von Fußgängern und Radfahrern sowie eingeschränkt von Kraftfahrzeugen genutzt. Er galt bei seiner Eröffnung als technische Sensation, steht seit 2003 unter Denkmalschutz und wurde am 7. September 2011 von der Bundesingenieurkammer und der Hamburgischen Ingenieurkammer-Bau mit dem Titel Historisches Wahrzeichen der Ingenieurbaukunst in Deutschland ausgezeichnet. Die Ehrentafel wurde am nördlichen Eingang (St. Pauli) angebracht.

Der Cache befindet sich in der Mitte des Tunnels... Das geübte Auge wird schon wissen wo....
In Antwerpen gibt es im St. Anna Tunnel auch einen Cache - aber wenn man sich die Bilder anschaut ist der Elbtunnel doch deutlich schöner!
Ebenso gibt es einen Virtual in London unter der Themse. Da es doch seeehr muggelig sein kann, habe ich die D-Wertung rauf gesetzt. Es ist durchaus möglich mit dem Rollstuhl an die Location zu kommen, nur das heben dürfte sich als schwer rausstellen.

Old Elbe Tunnel or St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel (German: Alter Elbtunnel (coll.) or St. Pauli Elbtunnel (official name)) which opened in 1911, is a pedestrian and vehicle tunnel in Hamburg, Germany. The 426 m (1,398 ft) long tunnel was a technical sensation; 24 m (80 ft) beneath the surface, two tubes with 6 m (20 ft) diameter connect central Hamburg with the docks and shipyards on the south side of the river Elbe. This meant a big improvement for tens of thousands of workers in one of the busiest harbours in the world.
Four huge lifts on either side of the tunnel carried pedestrians, carriages and motor vehicles to the bottom. They are still in operation, though due to the limited capacity by today's standards, other bridges and tunnels have been built and taken over most of the traffic.
On July 22, 1907 the construction of the tunnel started to connect the quarters of St. Pauli near the Landungsbrücken and Steinwerder. Work was done under pressure because the tunnel was below the water table of the Elbe. This type of building technique was used in the 19th century, in large engineering excavations, such as with the piers of bridges and with tunnels, where caissons under pressure were used to keep water from flooding the excavations, such as the foundations of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. But workers who spend time in high-pressure atmospheric pressure conditions are at risk when they return to the lower pressure outside the caisson without slowly reducing the surrounding pressure. Due to the problems associated with decompression sickness, many of the men working on the Elbe tunnel were affected by, what was known at the time, Caisson's Disease. Three men died, 74 suffered severe cases and more than 600 came down with light symptoms among 4,400 workers. The tunnel opened on September 7, 1911.
And now - the cache:
Its easy to find the cache - but tricky to get it. From time to time its crowded with muggels. So you need a good timing, a good excuse or be patient. The spoiler will help you since there is no signal down there (-16m below normalheight). Or just guess where it could be down there. There are only two possibilities. Happy hunting.
There is also a cache in the St. Anna Tunnel in Antwerp -but if you look at the images, the Elbtunnel is more beautiful!
There is also a Virtual in London underneath the Thames.
