Geocache Description:

An easy park-and-cache. Even better if you cycle in.

The cache is located along a rural road in Moonshine Valley. Please drive cautiously as it is often single lane and blind.

No cell phone coverage!

Background
The earliest forms of postal communication within New Zealand and to and from its shores were haphazard at best – the first whalers, missionaries and traders having to rely on occasional passing ships for inwards and outwards communications.

During the 1830s, several Bay of Islands merchants were delegated the responsibility for inward and outward mail by the Postmaster-General of New South Wales. In 1840, the first official Post Office in New Zealand was opened at Kororareka.

Since then through sun, rain, hail and snow the postie has delivered mail all over New Zealand.

However, there is a limit to even the posties reach, and in RD1, Porirua, this is it!

Please drive cautiously / slowly as there is fairly heavy traffic, cyclists and children in the area.

It will pay to park on the turning bay to the right as you approach GZ. If you go past the site the road narrows even further (yes it's possible!), then you run out of tar seal, and then about 1km after the cache site you can turn around at Cooks Road.

The Cache

The cache is a 200ml snaplock container
At the time of placing the cache contained:
