Geocache Description:

Warning - this is NOT a park and grab. You will encounter wet conditions most times of the year and depending on the way you go you may need to change your pants. Come prepared for over a mile hike round trip. Along the way there are some great views and its become one of my favorite places to hike. The cache container contains nothing but a log book. Please BYOP.

Welcome to the Town of Genessee Park system. You are looking for a 3 stage multicache, the first stage being a "virtual" field puzzle.

The cache is not at the listed coordinates but you will need to go there to collect information for the next waypoint. At the coordinates listed you will find an Army field artillery piece (a Howitzer!) and a time capsule. I love time capsules, they are like geocaches hidden in plain view.

A = The Chapter # of the Military Order of the Purple Heart PLUS 539

B = The year the time capsule will be opened MINUS 1382

You will find waypoint 2 at the following coordinates: N 42 57.A W 088 22.B

I have the feeling this cache is going to be my first on the lonely cache game, which is a great game the WGA hosts to give caches that don't get much love a chance to be found again. My goal is to keep it off the lonely cache game for as long as possible. Let's shoot for at least 3 years. I considered calling the cache Homage to the Lonely Cache Game.

The cache is located in a nearby nature preserve with four other traditional caches and adjacent to the Ten Chimneys National Historical Site. The "Black Bottom Stomp" was a roaring 20's Ragtime song composed by Jelly Roll Morton. I can't make this stuff up.

I placed this cache near the 1 year anniversary of my first hide, Take it on the Run, GC2NKZ9. This one is considerably a step up from that one. All complaints should go to Sevencards, jpleva and Ranger Boy. They are the ones who egged me on to do this one either in person or by inspiration.

The original puzzle told more about the Howitzer. Unfortunately at some point in May of 2012, that sign was taken down. There is a picture of the sign in the gallery of this cache page. As a double check of the North coords you could solve: A = How far the cannon can shoot in miles PLUS the new serial number of the barrel MINUS 4081

;

Permission to place caches in the town of Genessee was granted by Ron Hill, chairman of the Parks Department.
