Geocache Description:

Two-part multi-cache in Nichols Arboretum.

This cache is not at the listed coordinates ! When there is snow cover you may or may not be able to read the first stage clue you need to find the final stage. THE BASICS: The GPS coordinates for this cache will take you to a place where you will find two years in plain sight (no need to climb a fence). These two years are each 4-digit numbers and are associated with Miss ELN. Use each of these numbers with the following formula to calculate the GPS coordinates of this arboretum cache. XX.XXX (and YY.YYY) = (YEAR ÷ 3.35878) – 540.9606 You will have to use this formula twice, substituting each one of the 4-digit years for the variable “YEAR”. A pen, paper, and a calculator will be helpful. This 9 X 7 X 3 inch cache container is located at N 42 XX.XXX W 083 YY.YYY. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Arb is open every day from sunrise to sunset, admission is free. This cache is kid, dog, and bike friendly but your dog must be on a leash and plan to lock your bicycle at any entrance. The Arb closes at sunset and it would be hazardous to attempt this cache in low light as there is a fair bit of walking over hilly terrain. There are paths everywhere in the Arb, stay on them as much as possible. The Arb is often packed with muggles, but your hunt requires no special caution. Be prepared for some mosquitoes when in season. GETTING BACK OUT: Lose yourself in this natural wonderland, but if you overachieve in this regard, know that the Washington Heights entrance is at [N 42 16.837, W 083 43.614], the Mitchell Field entrance is at [N 42 17.045, W 083 43.074], and the Geddes Street entrance is at [N 42 16.544, W 083 43.492]. PARKING: Parking is often a challenge around the Arb, but you have several free parking options. Turn onto Washington Heights from Observatory Street and find a parking lot on your right just before you get to the Ronald McDonald House. This UofM parking lot is free to the general public on weekends and after 5 pm on weekdays. Free street parking is often available any time of day on Oswego Street near the Geddes Street entrance. You can also park at Mitchell Field on the south side of Fuller Road (between Maiden Lane and Bonisteel Blvd) which has free parking on weekends and after 4 pm on weekdays – Go to the left as you enter and to the far east end of the parking lot where you will find a asphalt pathway. Follow it down to the Huron River, cross the foot bridge, and turn right immediately. This path leads over train tracks and into the Arb.
