Hoopers Inlet is one of the
stopping points on the annual John McGlashan Year 9 Peninsula field
trip. Here the students observe the mudflat birds and make
observations and identifications to investigate their ecological
niches. You will need a NZ bird field guide of reasonable
quality.
To find this geocache you will need a Wherigo enabled device. See
www.wherigo.com for more
details.
The cartridge for this geocache can be downloaded from the Wherigo
site
here.
There is, of course, no geocache at
the posted co-ordinates - they take you to a spot close to where
you will start. This cartridge can only be played in the real
world.
Your task, as stated in the player
is “Head to each of the zones. Wait for the bird to show up,
you may need to be patient. There should be reasonable parking at
each zone and a spot to view the real birds. Please feel free to
record your observations in your log. When each bird shows up use
your bird guide and / or your general knowledge to answer the bird
question in each zone. You score a point for each correct question,
zero for a wrong answer. You need a score of four before the final
zone is activated, so you can only afford one wrong answer! Turn
your volume up!” Sound is not required to complete the
cartridge.
