Mountain Top Cache
This cache is located on Borestone Mountain. This beautiful Audubon sanctuary is located in Elliotsville, Maine. See map 41 in the Maine Gazetteer. Parking co-ordinates @ entrance to sanctuary: 45,22.406N 069,25.839W It is a moderately strenuous 1.8-mile hike to the top and the cache, which requires some rock scrambling. There are a couple of places that have handrails. There is a visitor center .8 miles up the Base Trail at Sunrise Pond. Beyond the visitor center it is another 1.0 miles on the Summit Trail to the two peaks of Borestone. Some points to consider: • Hikers may also walk up a 1.3-mile access road from the sanctuary entrance to the Visitor Center, but it’s only trail hiking beyond the Visitor Center to the cache. • A $4.00 per person gate fee is required, payable at a box at the visitor center. • Some of the rocks toward the top can be quite slippery if the weather is inclement. • No dogs allowed in the sanctuary or on the trails. • The cache may not be winter accessible. • The views on a clear day are beautiful!
