Cache is located in the recently established and
planted 'Dalmore Reserve'. This land was once owned by the
Dominicans, who also owned and operated Aquinas College just down
the hill. The area of the reserve was covered in pine, with the
exception of a group of deciduous trees in the centre layed out in
a cross.
Now the pine trees have gone, making way for the establishment of
the reserve and what should be a more enjoyable space to use in the
future. In 2009 3000 New Zealand natives have been planted in this
area, but for now there is a stunning and unique view of Dunedin to
be seen.
Being relatively unknown and off the beaten track there is never
many others around and finding a large stump to pearch on and
admire the view is not hard. The long grass and amount of space
make it a great place to take dogs for a run around.
Entry to the reserve is from Allenby Ave in Pine Hill. The cache is
a square 15 litre bucket hidden in the bushes on the edge of the
reserve. You do not need to go far into the bushes to find and
certainly do not need to go down the steep bank further into the
bush. However, you will need to wade through the long grass and
piles of pine tree leftovers. The lid of the bucket can be
difficult to open but if you look closely there are instructions on
the lid, follow them and it's not too hard. Please place the lid
back on securely! On placing it contained a log book and a number
of trading items. Coordinate accuracy was ± 2m when placed.
