The cache is located in bushland next to Hayes Oval in Galston. Being a Night Cache, this one is best attempted in the dark with a good torch so you can spot the reflective fire tacks that will lead you to the cache.
Galston, like much of the Hills area has rich soil that was derived from the Wianamatta shale found along most of the high ridges of the region. This soil made it ideal for the citrus growing which started in Galston back in 1819. The Hills area supplied most of Australia's fruit from the 1890s until just after WWII when the Murrumbidge Irrigation Area took over. The local fruit farmers then gradually sold out to market gardeners, flower growers and land developers. Now there is only a handful of stone fruit growers left. Hayes Oval is named after the Hayes family who ran the local Post Office and trucking business from a location which is now taken over by town houses next to the current Galston Shopping Centre. The large park and swimming pool area nearby was once the Galston Showgrounds and the current Hayes Oval was built much later. Opposite is historic Waddell Cottage which was the family home of one of the original orchard growers in the area built in 1867. Using your GPS, navigate your way to the posted co-ordinates. Once there, follow the trail of fire tacks until you come across fire tacks in a shape of a triangle, 3 of them close together. You're now close to your goal, so stop and use your GPS to navigate precisely 340° mag for 16 metres to a rock hide - that's where the cache will be! Remove the rock with a yellow spot to locate cache container, when finished carefully refit cache and rock to the hide. Please do not move the rocks around it which should stay in place to create the hide.
