Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge
Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge
Checkpoint ROMEO

Welcome to the Elvin McDonald Horticultural Library at Deep Cut Gardens, 152 Red Hill Road, Middletown, New Jersey. This cache will fulfill your “ROMEO” requirement for the Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge.

The first stage is a traditional hide in the woods. The log is located in the library. Library Hours: Mon. - Fri. 9am-4pm, Sat. 10am-4pm

The first stage is a spacious hotel for all of your goodies, nestled away from the manicured gardens. The final consists of a log book and a small container of colored pencils for you to get creative on your page of the log.

Allow time to stroll the grounds and reflect on the romantic aspect of nature and how we relate to it, that we are part of it. Feel free to take the log out to discover a secluded nook and try some poetry, or to the greenhouse and sketch the curves of a plant or to the koi pond and capture the essence of that fishy motion or anywhere else in those 54 acres that catches your eye. I challenge you to break out of "automode" and gift yourself with a time to explore your environment, and also yourself. Doodle and Dream. Let us know what you appreciate about life and love, as I'm sure Romeo did for Juliet.

This may be a tall order for some, if so, please share the log strip that is inserted into the journal if you only want to leave your name and the date.

Deep Cut Gardens is 54 acres of living reference material for the home gardener. I was excited to find they have a well stocked library and lots of horticulturists on staff and volunteering on the grounds. I enjoyed being able to curl up in the reading room on a cold misty day, able to gaze out at the grounds and daydream with the books for what I will do with my own gardens in the coming spring.

If you fall in love and want to bring others be aware that Deep Cut is available for additional caches, but ONLY on the far (South & East) side of the service road and away from the barn.

Official CJCC Information
Central Jersey Geocachers are sponsoring the Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge series. This challenge series is intended to take geocachers on a tour of Central New Jersey while finding caches placed by Central Jersey geocachers. On the tour we hope you will find Central Jersey an interesting and beautiful part of our great state.

This challenge series includes 26 checkpoint caches (naming based on the NATO phonetic alphabet) and the final - Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge (GC1NJAZ). The 26 checkpoints do not have to be completed in any particular order. See the Checkpoint Challenge bookmark list for the complete list of caches.

Hidden within the 26 checkpoint caches are numbers to be used to calculate the coordinates of the final Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge cache – please be sure to note them while you are there.

While there are no special logging requirements for the 26 checkpoint caches, there are special logging requirements for the Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge cache. Complete information can be found on the Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge cache page.

Happy caching and enjoy the Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge!
