Cos some Sines are nocturnal Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rhinogeo: Unfortunately the firetacks tend to go missing yet the cache still managed to be found in the daylight a number of times by previous finders supplying the coordinates for GZ to those that must have a find at all costs [:(]

It was nice having a 40 litre ammo box cache hidden - I'll have to find another place for it

Geocache Description:

The second Rhinogeo geocache providing you with the opportunity to put those trigonometry lessons from school or uni to good geocaching use but on a larger scale than in Cos there's a Sine

This cache can be commenced during daylight but the actual finding of the cache can only be completed after dark

You are required to collect information, do some calculations, some driving and go walking in the dark in reasonably open forest and light undergrowth. All calculated (or projected) waypoints should place you on a road/track or in a designated parking area

A GPSr, pen or pencil, paper, scientific calculator, some grey matter and a good bright torch are all you need to find the cache

If you are a bit rusty on your trigonometry you can find information on the Sine and Cosine rules (along with some examples) here and here

The cache is approximately 35 litres in size and contains a veritable cornucopia of goodies along with the traditional log book and pen. Large swaps and TBs that are precluded from the plethora of small and micro caches can find a home here

Location 1

S 36º 34.534’
E 145º 55.848’

There is a lot of information here on things to see and do

For further information or assistance you can call ABCDEFGH

Location 2

S 36º 3(H-C). (B-A)(C+E+D)(G+E-A)’
E 145º 5(A+D).(F-C-E)(B-C-E)(D+E)’

Treat this place with due reverence and collect the following information:

Total number that served = JKLMNO

Served in the SW = PQRSTU

The identification number of the one here different from the others = VWXYZ

Location 3

The brackets do not imply multiplication

Location 3 is on a bearing (from True North) of (V-U-J)(K+N+Q)(F+X-C).(Y-Z) ° from Location 1 and (T+M-G)(S+D+Q)(N+O+P).(B-M+X)° from Location 2

For calculation purposes, Locations 1 & 2 are (V-Z)(F+P)(K+O+N)(D+W-L)metres apart

You may confirm that your are actually at Location 3 by checking that you hare parked adjacent to the triple-barreled tree in the Location 3 photo (of course it may be a bit tricky to find in the dark but this isn't meant to be easy)

The path should be bright but don't forget what you have already learned

Thanks to Fearless Leader, Nick and Josh for Beta testing the cache (and Stickler for the Gamma testing that uncovered a couple of remnants from the Beta testing)
