How did this get here?
This cache used to be within view of an FGR2 McDonald Douglas
Phantom (XT914) in the colours of 74 (Fighter) Squadron. This
aircraft flew with the squadron from RAF Wattisham in Suffolk from
1991-1992 (replacing the F-4J(UK) operated by 74 squadron from
1984-1991); it has also operated with 14, 56 and 92 Squadrons plus
228 Operational Conversion Unit - a busy life indeed!
But I've always wondered how it got here as RAF Brampton has no
runway! Sadly, pending the closure of RAF Brampton, the Phantom was
removed in February 2012 to be moved to RAF Wattisham - hopefully,
a happy homecoming after all...
The cache is a black 35mm film canister. Please be discrete
during recovery as you may be being watched!
