Florida's variable soils and habitats support a huge diversity
of plants that include many found only in Florida (endemic
species). About 2,500 of the 6,000 plants that grow here are native
to the state. There are more than 300 species of trees - nearly
half of all the species in the U.S. Some of the most familiar
species include pines, oaks, palms, sweetgums, beeches, mangroves,
maples and magnolias.
