Geocache Description:

This is a micro in a really out of the way place. Hunt in daytime only. Don't go if it has recently rained. The description below, tells you exactly where the cache is hidden. No need to go near the water. It's not there.

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DISCRIPTION BEFORE GOING TO HUNT FOR THIS ONE!
Ever heard the saying "you can't get here from here"? Well this is one of those situations.
The area where the cache is hidden, is part of Tipton County Tennessee. The county seat is only about 5 miles away, "as the crow flies". Trouble is, that crow would have to fly (or swim) across the Mississippi River in order to get there. For us two-legged travelers, getting here means strapping on the snorkel and fins and hope we don't end up in New Orleans before we reach the other side.
OR
It means a car ride of about 100 miles round trip from the Memphis area because that is where the closest bridge across the Mississippi is.
Why in the world would we put a cache all the way over here? Well, we find it sort of interesting that if you live in Tennessee, sometimes you have to go to Arkansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, or Missouri to get to other parts of the state.
There is another reason, but we will let the logs from the finders speak for that one.
Now for the really pertinent info:
  • This is a DAYTIME cache only. PLEASE do not hunt this one after dark.
  • The terrain rating is based on hunting it in good weather. You don't need a 4X4 in good weather. The road is bumpy but it is perfectly passable if the weather has been dry. We went out here in our Honda Insight to hide the box and had no trouble at all.
  • DO NOT GO AFTER THIS ONE IF IT HAS RECENTLY RAINED OR SNOWED! The terrain difficulty may go up to a 5 if you attempt it then. (trust us on this)
  • The cache is hidden in the pile of concrete just to the right of the road sign. We are telling you this because we don't want people pilfering all over the place trying to find it. When you get within 50 ft of the hiding spot, you will be able to recognize it easily.
  • The caretakers know about the cache and have agreed to watch over it. Their names are Preston and Laurie. They are very nice people. If you see them, be sure to thank them for allowing the cache to be placed here.
  • THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE OUT HERE!! So, if you decide NOT to heed these warnings, you may find yourself "up the creek without a paddle", literally and figuratively. Just for reference... it's a 3 mile walk back to civilization...one way!
  • Oh, and did we mention DON'T GO AT NIGHT OR IF IT HAS RAINED RECENTLY?!?!?!?
If you are wondering what is actually out here...well there are 2 hunting clubs, one to the NE and one to the SE. They are both at least 3-4 miles away, so if you hear gunshots, don't worry...they are coming from way down toward the Mississippi river. Well far enough away from where the cache location is. Preston and Laurie work for the one to the SE. The rest of the fields are owned by various farmers. The road you come in on is a county road.
Be sure to find the cache at Hampson Archeological State Park GCWW16, just 3 miles away, while you are out this way. It is the only cache on this side of the river for at least 40 miles.
Effective 03-30-2016, Lostnspace has adopted this cache from fluffy&itchy. We will be replacing the cache with a new container and log in the near future. A big Thank You to fluffy&itchy for creating and maintaining this cache since 2007.
